Dog Urinary Tract Infection

Dog Urinary Tract InfectionThe blood-filtering mechanism of the kidneys, with their complex system of tubules, is subject to several problems. The whole system may be thrown out of balance or there may be a failure of one or more of the parts – in the ureters, the bladder, or the urethra. In addition to the damage done by these primary failures, infections or defects in these organs directly affect the functioning of other parts of the body and sometimes are instrumental in causing other diseases. The awareness of a problem in its early stage is a real challenge to even an observant pet owner – a dog cannot specify that it is out of sorts with a dull backache as humans can. But spotting an early-stage kidney disease can prevent disaster.

You will be able to have your dog treated while the disease is in the early stage. The final, definite diagnosis of the specific problem will usually be made by your veterinarian. A urinalysis is generally necessary, for only an examination with a microscope will reveal that kidney tubules have shed their lining, that the urine contains crystals or bacteria, or that several other difficult-to-detect conditions indicative of a particular disease are present.

Nevertheless, early recognition of the common symptoms is important, for these outward signs are usually the first indications of trouble and as suds are the basis for further examination. These indications may be one or a combination of the following: a desire for fluids over the usual amount drunk; either excess or more frequent urination than is usual; a slight loss of pep or enthusiasm. As a condition progresses, these signs become more pronounced and more obvious.

Dog Urinary Tract Infection Symptoms

  • One of the primary symptoms of urinary tract infection includes excessive urge for drinking water. You must take your dog to a good vet clinic for a check-up in case your dog drinks more amount of water than usual. The increased rate of thirst is due to renal problems that occur in the urinary tract. The symptoms become very significant if you find your dog to be drinking water excessively despite cold weather and not much into physical exercise.
  • You must also keep track of the rate of urination of the dog. If you find out that your dog is urination more or less than the usual rate of urination, you may take your dog for a clinical test.
  • In case the urination of the dog has completely stopped. This shows that the dog is suffering from a very advanced stage of urinary tract infection which requires immediate medical attention.

You are recommended to be a keen observer of the rate of urination of your dog. You must find out whether your dog is attempting to urinate unsuccessfully several times before actually doing it. For diagnosing the severity of the infection the samples of urine are closely examined. Foul-smelling urination along with blood is the result of bladder problems.
