Dog Uterus Problems
Several growths develop in the uterus. Some of these are relatively harmless, but others seem to predispose the organ to infection. Sonic types develop rapidly, and with these, it is often impossible to save the bitch. Growths, especially those in the pelvis, have been known to cause difficult birthing.
The disease called pyometra is an infectious disease that occurs in the uterus of female dogs. The disease is characterized by a pus-filled uterus. Though the disease have been detected several years back the reason behind the development of the uterus disorder is yet to be determined. Doctors believe that the hormones like progesterone and estrogen and their receptors are involved in the development of the disease.
The development of infection is due to the presence of bacteria. A female dog when it gradually becomes sexually matured through several hormonal changes the uterus of the bitch gradually becomes ready for the fertilization of the embryo and then the growth of the baby. Within these phases of uterus development in case the uterus gets infected with a certain bacteria and through a series of hormonal regulations the disease might develop.
The following are the causes behind the development of the disease.
Cause behind the Development of Dog Uterus Problems
- Studies indicate that for the development of the disease called pyometra, various hormones like estrogen and progesterone take part in the process.
- The disease is most likely to develop when the uterus of the dog is rich in the hormone called progesterone. Whereas, the working of the estrogen triggers the occurrence of the uterus problem when the dog is just over 4 years old. Though the hormone progesterone helps the uterus to fight against bacterial invasion sometimes administering of high dosage of the hormone may lead to the occurrence of a disease called pyometra.
- In most cases, the bacterium responsible for the development of the disease is E.coli. The bacteria may enter through the vagina, the urinary tract, or fecal contamination.
Symptoms of Dog Uterus Problems
At very advanced stages of the disease, deaths can also occur. The disease characterizes the inflammation of not only the urinary tract but also the organs close to it. Sometimes the female dog dies due to an increased rate of inflammation of the entire body. The following are certain signs that are related to the development of the disease.
- The infected dog would be feeling very lethargic. It would not feel like going for exercises and rather like lying down and resting.
- Due to pain and trauma, the dog would also be seen to be depressed and not in a cheery mood.
- The dog would also be seen in increasing the rate of water intake.
